Happy birthday, Bukowski

16.08.1920, Charles Bukowski was born. Great poet, counter-culture icon and a solid drinker, Bukowski still remains an inspiration. His writing was influenced by the cultural, social and economic ambience, with emphasis on the ordinary lives of poor Americans, the act of writing, alcohol, women and the drudgery of work.

Eat your heart out
by Charles Bukowski

I've come by, she says, to tell you
that this is it. I'm not kidding, it's
over. this is it.
I sit on the couch watching her arrange
her long red hair before my bedroom
mirror.
she pulls her hair up and
piles it on top of her head-
she lets her eyes look at
my eyes-
then she drops her hair and
lets it fall down in front her face.
we go to bed and I hold her
speechlessly from the back
my arm around her neck
I touch her wrists and hands
feel up to her elbows
no further.
she gets up.
this is it, she says,
this will do. well,
I'm going.
I get up and walk her
to the door
just as she leaves
she says,
I want you to buy me
some high-heeled shoes
with tall thin spikes,
black high-heeled shoes.
no, I want them
red.
I watch her walk down the cement walk
under the trees
she walks all right and
as the poinsettias drip in the sun
I close the door.

7 simple rules for life in hiding...

1. Never trust a cop in a raincoat.
2. Beware of enthusiasm and of love. Each is temporary and quick to sway.
3. If asked if you care about world's problems, look deep into the eyes of he, who asks. He will not ask you again.
4. Never give your real name.
5. If told to look at yourself... Never look.
6. Never say or do anything the person standing in front of you cannot understand.
7. Never create anything. People will misinterpreted it. It will chain you and follow you till the rest of your life and it will never change.
